Brookland Values

Our Brookland Values are at the core of our ethos here at Brookland in helping all our pupils be 'the best they can be'.  They provide an essential cornerstone for our curriculum and way of life at Brookland.

We are proud that our values were chosen by our children and reflect and embody the key principles that are important to our strength and growth as a community.

We have 5 main core values:

  • Aiming High
  • Caring
  • Honesty
  • Respect
  • Responsibility

These values provide pupils with a common language and code they can use throughout the curriculum and in their daily lives.

Alongside these core values we also promote a wider set of values to help foster pupil personal development.

These include:

Wider School Values

  • Appreciation
  • Cooperation
  • Courage
  • Freedom
  • Generosity
  • Gratitude
  • Happiness
  • Honesty
  • Modesty
  • Patience
  • Peacefulness
  • Perserverance
  • Positivity
  • Quality
  • Resilience
  • Tolerance
  • Thoughtfulness
  • Trust
  • Understanding

Our assemblies have a values focus in which we explore each value in depth.  Additionally, we have a weekly Philosophy for Children lesson where pupils can develop their speaking and listening skills around a particular value.

British Values and SMSC

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
