Are you a university student or adult exploring a career in teaching or education? Brookland Junior School warmly welcomes volunteers who are passionate about working with children and contributing to a vibrant learning community.

Why Volunteer With Us?

Brookland Junior School, located in Hampstead Garden Suburb, is a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to “Be the Best You Can Be.” Volunteering here offers:

  • Hands-on classroom experience alongside experienced educators.
  • Opportunities to support reading, practical work, and creative activities.
  • Involvement in school trips, theme days, and enrichment events.
  • A chance to observe and/or participate in interventions and other whole-school initiatives.
  • Insight into child development, behaviour management, and inclusive education.

Who Can Apply?

We welcome:

  • University students studying education, psychology, or related fields.
  • Adults considering a career change into teaching.
  • Individuals with a passion for working with children and contributing to their growth.
  • Y10 and Y11 pupils looking to gain community work experience or looking to complete hours as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
  • Please note, we can only accept secondary school aged volunteering placements through official school work experience placements.

Volunteer Roles May Include:

  • In class support of pupils in lessons
  • Supporting pupils with 1-1 or small group reading.
  • Supporting pupils through playground games or lunchtime games support
  • Helping during PE, music, design technology or art lessons.
  • Participating in school events like Arts Week, Literacy Week, World Book Day or other focus events.
  • Acting as a guest speaker to share career journeys and inspire pupils.

Volunteering and safeguarding

Brookland Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All volunteers will be required to follow our safeguarding policies and code of conduct at all times. 

Long term or regular volunteer placements will be required to undergo appropriate background checks, including an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Volunteers without DBS check will be supervised when working with children by a Brookland member of staff at all times.
