Music & Music Development Plan
Music at Brookland
At Brookland Junior School, we believe music is an enriching experience that enhances our inclusive school community and fosters a lifelong love of creativity. We aim to develop every child’s understanding and enjoyment of music through hands-on performing, composing, listening, and appraising across a rich range of historical periods, genres, and traditions. By engaging children in diverse musical experiences, we proudly celebrate the rich variety of backgrounds within our community, while developing core Brookland learning skills and values.
Passionate Music Leaders
Our vibrant musical opportunities are brought to life by passionate educators. Music is expertly coordinated by Mr Greenhouse, a Pearson Silver Award winner recognised for his dedication to promoting music within our community. Our specialist music teacher, Alice, delivers high-quality learning and brings us all together by leading our uplifting, whole-school singing assemblies.
Music in the community
Community and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. Our celebrated school choir provides a stage for every child to shine, regularly performing at local events including the Cherry Tree Wood Festival, the Arts Depot, and the East Finchley Christmas lights switch-on.
To ensure every child can discover their musical potential, we also run a ukulele ensemble group that gives pupils from all other backgrounds access to instrumental learning, fostering teamwork and confidence.
A trip to remember
We also believe in the power of live music to inspire young minds. A recent highlight was an unforgettable, whole-school trip to see the King’s Chamber Orchestra perform live, bringing the magic of a professional orchestra directly to our pupils. Through this rich blend of classroom learning, community performance, and inspiring trips, we ensure that music at Brookland is truly for everyone.
